Ian Lenagan

Ian Lenagan

Ian has more than 40 years’ experience in the computer sector, primarily in the application software design arena - initially in Manufacturing and then for 25 years specialising in Workforce Management across multiple sectors - with a reputation for innovation and creative thought-leadership in designing standard solutions which increasingly meet customers’ requirement.

Ian Lenagan founded WorkPlace Systems in 1986 in Milton Keynes and was Chairman and Chief Executive throughout its growth from two staff initially to its successful flotation on the London Stock Market in 2000 and expansion into America and Australasia.

Ian personally designed the world-leading WorkPlace range of software products which are now in use at hundreds of major companies across the world including WalMart, Armani, BBC, Boeing, Metro, H&M, Argos, Wetherspoon, BAe Systems, BA, Kuwait Airways and Woolworths South Africa. He sold the remainder of his shares in 2011 to focus on the development of InnovEd.

He also acquired Oxford United in 2006 reflecting his 30-year commitment to Oxfordshire and the involvement of his sons in Football. He served as Chairman and Chief Executive in 2014 when he attracted significant investment to allow the Club to challenge its potential as a sustainable Championship Football Club. As part of the new investment Ian instigated a management re-structure and now focusses on delivering a new stadium for the Football Club and the Community.

With his sons who are equally involved in Sport and Business, Ian founded Innovative Solutions for Education Ltd in 2008. InnovEd - where Ian is Executive Chairman - provided software-based Course Content in Rugby and Football to schools, Academies and PRU’s in conjunction with Professional Clubs for 14-16 and 16-19 year olds to increase participation in Education using Sport as the driver. Disengaged, sports-interested and semi-elite sports students were the target market and this new approach to sports education and participation delivered excellent results.

Ian acquired interests in the Sports Office, Replay Analysis and ProCo NW and has, alongside his professional sports clubs, redefined virtual learning and education management into the ‘next generation’ Education Management System.

His business qualities have also been recognised in his appointment to both the Football League and the Football Association.
